The inspection was never the problem

Half a day on site, and then the write-up stretches across an evening, a Sunday, or both. It's the least skilled part of the job and it takes the most hours, which is why report-writing services exist at all, and why so many surveyors have tried one.

Quill takes the notes you already record on site and produces a complete first draft — sectioned, formatted, with your photographs placed where they belong. A Level 3 that took five hours comes back in about twenty minutes of checking.

It writes what you found, in the way you'd have written it. Then you read it, correct it and sign it, exactly as you always did.

What it does not do

This matters more than the features

It does not look at your photographs and decide a roof needs replacing. It does not identify defects you didn't record. It forms no opinions about cause, and it makes no recommendations you didn't make yourself.

Everything in the draft traces back to something you wrote or said on site. That isn't a limitation I'm apologising for — it's the design, and it's what makes the thing safe to put your name on.

The RICS standard on responsible AI became mandatory in March 2026 and requires exactly this: professional judgement stays with the surveyor, material outputs are signed off by a named person, and there's an audit trail. Here's what that standard actually asks of you, in plain English.

  4. 4It's yoursInstalled on your own account, permanently. No subscription to me, no licence, and no way for me to switch it off. If we never speak again it keeps working.

Why it's a hundred pounds

Because it's roughly what you'd pay someone to type up one report, and because I'd rather you bought something small and found out I'm competent than took a leap on a monthly fee from a stranger.

You pay it once and never again. No renewal, no licence, no annual fee, and no way for me to take it back — the report writer sits on your own account and keeps working whether or not we ever speak after that.

If you go on to the full service, the £100 comes off your first month. If you don't, you keep the report writer and we shake hands. And if it isn't any good, tell me and I'll refund it — you keep it anyway, and I'll have learned something from building it.

One practical note: Quill runs on your own Claude subscription, around £90 a month, paid directly by you. That's what keeps your clients' reports inside your own account rather than on somebody else's server.
